The brief
The project involved designing an institutional logo for the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi – Abu Dhabi. The objective was to develop a distinctive visual identity that connects the institute’s academic heritage with its presence in the UAE, while maintaining a visual association with the parent institution, IIT Delhi.
The idea behind the mark
The logo is constructed from the letters I-I-T-D, stylised using visual characteristics of Arabic lettering. The letterforms are tilted and arranged to create a diamond-like silhouette, referencing the distinctive rooftop design of Dogra Hall at IIT Delhi. This approach brings together the institute’s architectural identity and the visual language of Arabic calligraphy, establishing a connection between IIT Delhi and its Abu Dhabi campus. The red colour is drawn from IIT Delhi’s existing logo, maintaining continuity with the parent institution’s visual identity.
